Why Your Concealer Creases — And How I Fix It Like a Pro

We all want flawless under-eyes, especially during the holidays — but if your concealer keeps creasing, it can ruin your glow in photos, at parties, or even just on your Zoom calls. As a pro makeup artist, I see this all the time, and the good news is: it’s fixable.
Here’s the exact way I prevent creasing for my clients — and you can use it too.
1. Hydrate First (Always)
Creasing starts with dryness. Even if your skin feels soft, the under-eye area is delicate.
My favorite prep routine:
Eye cream with hyaluronic acid or peptides
A tiny bit of smoothing primer
Optional: a quick chill with a jade roller or cooled spoon
Think of it as plumping the canvas before painting your masterpiece.
2. Correct Before Concealing
Many people pile on concealer to hide darkness, but this actually makes creasing worse.
Purple/blue circles: peach or salmon corrector
Brown or dark circles: warm orange tones
Greenish shadows: pink-toned corrector
Tap gently — do not swipe. Less product = less creasing.
3. Pick the Right Formula
Not all concealers are created equal.
I always use:
Hydrating, medium–full coverage
Cream-to-liquid textures
1–1.5 shades lighter than your foundation
Avoid thick matte formulas — they settle into lines quickly.
4. Blend With Care
The right technique is just as important as the right product.
Use a damp sponge or soft brush
Pat, don’t drag
Focus on tapping motions under the eye
This gives a natural, crease-free finish.
5. Set Without Overdoing It
Powder is your friend… in moderation.
Use a finely milled translucent powder
Pick up a tiny amount with a soft puff
Press gently — don’t swipe
The key is locking the concealer in without looking dry or cakey.
6. Holiday-Ready Tricks
Reflect light upward: soft highlighter on top of cheekbones
Keep a small puff or sponge for quick touch-ups
Less is more — layers create creases
Creasing isn’t about bad makeup — it’s about prep, technique, and knowing your products. With the right steps, you can go from tired-looking under-eyes to bright, lifted, camera-ready eyes in minutes.
