When the heat is on, your makeup routine should work with the weather, not against it. Here’s how to stay glowing—not melting—this summer:
1. Start with skincare. Lighten up your skincare routine with an oil-free moisturizer and always apply broad-spectrum SPF before your makeup. A mattifying primer with SPF is a bonus!
2. Use a breathable base. Trade heavy foundations for lightweight formulas like a skin tint, BB cream, or tinted moisturizer for a more natural, breathable finish.
3. Go matte or satin where it matters. If you’re prone to shine, opt for matte or satin-finish foundations just on the T-zone to help control oil without looking cakey.
4. Cream blush is your best friend. A cream or liquid blush blends easily and melts into the skin for that fresh, sun-kissed glow that lasts longer in the heat.
5. Switch to waterproof mascara. Avoid raccoon eyes by using a waterproof or smudge-proof mascara—essential for sweaty days or spontaneous dips in the pool.
6. Choose long-wear cream eyeshadow. Cream shadows or eye tints are not only easy to apply, but they also tend to have better staying power in heat and humidity.
7. Define brows with staying power. Use a tinted brow gel or waterproof pencil to shape and hold brows in place all day, no matter how hot it gets.
8. Go light on the lips. Skip the heavy lipsticks—tinted balms, lip stains, or glossy lip oils keep your lips hydrated and give a juicy, effortless finish.
9. Set strategically. Apply a light dusting of translucent powder only where needed (like the T-zone), then seal your entire look with a long-lasting setting spray.
10. Blot, don’t reapply. Keep blotting papers or a blotting powder compact in your bag to absorb shine without piling on product.
